Illinois Conference Immigration Task Force

Emergency Resolution Proposal

Now, therefore, be it resolved that we, the United CHurch of Christ Illinois COnferemce, gathered at the 2011 Annual Meeting, support immigration justice by:

A. Preparing and sending letters from the Justice and Witness Committee as legislation progresses to the Governor and leaders of the Senate and General Assembly supporting the SMART and DREAM acts and adequate immigrant funding;

B) Disseminating materials (subject to the availability of resources) through entities such as the CMA Church in Society committee and the UCC Immigration Task Force for the education of the churches and individuals regarding Welcoming Congregations and immigrant justice; and

C) Urging UCC congregations and UCC members in the Illinois Conference to advocate that their legislators support legislation limiting ICE dragnet deportations in Illinois, supporting dedicated undocumented students and maintaining funding of the Immigrant Family Resource Program and New Americans Initiative.
